The Episcopal Vicariate of Great Britain and Ireland is part of the Archdiocese of Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe which has been within the jursidiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople (Istanbul) since 1931.
The Episcopal Vicariate was established under the pastoral care of Bishop Basil of Amphipolis, after he was received into the Ecumenical Patriarchate, at his request, in June 2006.
The cathedral of the Archdiocese is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, rue Daru, Paris, pictured above.
The head of the Archdiocese is Archbishop Gabriel of Comana, pictured right, who is also Exarch of Western Europe.
Bishop Basil was elected Bishop of Amphipolis on his reception into the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The ancient city of Amphipolis is located in Northern Greece at the mouth of the River Strymon and not far from the Holy Mountain of Mount Athos, and contains a number of early Christian sites. It is in that part of Greece called the 'New Territories', which is under the ultimate jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
